Embryonic territories: Lateral ectodermal domains

TERRITORY NAME Lateral ectodermal domains
SPECIFICATION TYPE Conditinal
SPECIFICATION TIME At 5th cleavage some blastomeres at the interface between oral and aboral domains produce progeny that will contribute to both oral and aboral domains (Cameron et al., 1993), and it is not clear exactly when the clones in these lateral ectodermal regions become specified. after 6th cleavage, the cleavage pattern in this region loses its spatial regularity, and mechanisms not dependent on lineage are clearly required for the formation of the oral/aboral boundary
