                 The yeast hexokinase P-I gene has multiple transcriptional start
                 sites (similar to HXK2). The main site is at position 530 and
                 another major site is at position 583, followed by an 'atg' codon
                 at positions 618-620. Since proteolytic cleavage of a N-terminal
                 undecapeptide results in catalytically active HXK1 and HXK2, a
                 derivative of the HXK1 gene transcribed from the initiation site
                 within the main ORF may also be catalytically active.
