Location of First Contractions in Stage 11 Heart

This line drawing depicts a chicken embryo at stage 11 (Hamburger and Hamilton, 1951). The area of red shading indicates where the first cardiac myocytes begin a coordinated contraction in the ventricle. This figure was adapted from Patten (1949).
