Chris and Amy's trip to Scotland: June 28th - July 11th, 2003: Edinburgh (click on pictures to view large version)

Amy on the train to Edinburgh.

Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh. Note: we did not stay there, but Sean Connery had a fancy party there when he became Sir Sean Connery.

Hey Tim, do you mind carrying our bags, too?

Part of the Edinburgh skyline, in New Town.

View from the North Bridge.

Victoria Street - Amy and Jen's favorite street in Old Town.

Us on Victoria Street.

Tim and Jen on that street again.

The famous Last Drop Tavern, right across the street from the hanging place.

Now this is more typical Scotland weather!

But we're still smiling.

If you could only hear the pipes!

View from Edinburgh Castle - I think that's St. Giles Cathedral, and in the foreground they're preparing for the Military Tattoo.

Suits of Armor in Edinburgh Castle, in the Great Hall (also known as the armory).

Stained glass windows in Great Hall, with Scottish Coats of Arms.

At Finnegan's Wake, an Irish bar in Edinburgh, where we listened to Sex and Violins.

Sex and Violins - two guys, one violin, and where's the you-know-what?

J.T. phone home.

The Scottish Queen's Guard outside St. Giles Cathedral. The Queen was inside installing two knights who just happened to be Scots, the Chancellor of Edinburgh University and the Provost of Eton College.

The Queen's Guard.

Beefeaters, from the back.

HRH, the Duke of Edinburgh, emerges from St. Giles Cathedral.

Yes, this is the Queen, and we were about 50 feet from her.

One of the new knights.

The Guard stand at attention.

Here comes the Queen.

She gives Amy a wave for the camera. Later on, she had us over for high tea.

The Queen went one way down the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace, the marching band went up the Mile the other way to Edinburgh Castle.

The Queen's Guard followed the band. Did they go the wrong way?

Ancient giant ammonite fossil at the Royal Museum.

Ancient arthropod fossils.

Walking sticks, one decent picture I took in the Entomology display at the Royal Museum. Unfortunately, my battery died right about this time.

Chapel of the Thistle, St. Giles Cathedral, looking up. This is where the knights were installed by the Queen earlier that day.

Ironwork in St. Giles.

St. Giles tower.

Festival Fringe Society had something to do with the Edinburgh Festival, the world's largest arts fest.

Edinburgh Castle, view from New Town.

Cross near St. John's Church, New Town.

Another view of the Castle.

Another view of the Castle.

Old Town skyline.
