Chris and Amy's trip to Scotland: June 28th - July 11th, 2003: Isle of Skye (click on pictures to view large version)

The first thing we did on the Isle of Skye was go to Ashaig, our bed-n-breakfast, where we were greeted by Tom and Marje's herd of Highland Cows (that's "coos").

Close-up of the beatiful shaggy beast.

Tom let us feed them, and we could not give them enough!

Meg, the most intelligent border collie.

Sunset on the Isle of Skye, which went on for a couple of hours. Again, note the beautiful weather, very unScottish-like.

A couple of hours later, the sun is still going down.

Warriors of Clan McLeod prepare to defend Castle Dunvegan from the McDonald's. Note the high-tech nylon and goretex kilts!

Headstone at cemetery near Dunvegan.

Sheep near Dunvegan.

Our view from our bedroom at Ashaig, our bed-n-breakfast on Skye.

Turn left and look and this is the rest of our beautiful view, using the digital zoom on our new Olympus digital camera.

On our way to the Coral Beaches, north end of Isle of Skye.

Looking out over Loch Dunvegan.

Thistle - we couldn't go to Scotland and not take a picture of thistle.

Getting closer to the beach.

Momma sheep with her baby.

The Coral Beaches lie just over these hills. Note the old stone wall.

Amy's beautiful picture of a flower using the macro feature.

The Coral Beaches are in sight.

Chris examining a tidal pool for invertebrates. "Look there, Amy, a limpet!" "Oh, wonderful," she says, her voice full of enthusiasm.

Tim went in just to say he'd been in the ocean!

Coral Beaches in Skye are actually made up of dried, bleached bits of macroalgae, not coral.

More sheep in the scenery.

Amy climbed the hill near the beach to get this view.

And she met a sheep at the top. Go figure.

Looking down on Tim and Jen.

Another view from the hilltop.

Yet another view.

Yet another view. Each one more spectacular than the last.

Hey, is there someone down there?

Yes, it's Chris, snoozing on the beach.

Someone else followed Amy up here. Is it Jen?

Was she laying down in the grass when she took this picture?

A not quite full blooded Clydesdale and a baby.

Castle Dunvegan, from the back side.

At the Edinbane Festival we hung out in a smoke-filled Hall and listened to some great music. This is Skirler, which I believe is made up of members of the Peatbog Faeries and one other guy. Then we listened to Les Miseres, a Scottish Creole band! Finally, Shooglenifty was up, with Angus, their kickass fiddler.

Waterfall at Kilt Rock.

Kilt Rock; can you see why it's called thus?

Dumwult Castle, in ruins, northeast Skye.

It was cold and very windy here. Brrrr! (make sure you roll your rrrr's when you say that, like a real Scot.)

Looking down through the ruins. A long way down.

View away from the Castle.

Amy went down the path looking for sheep.

Hey, what do you know, she found some.

Tim, Tom Naismith (our excellent B-n-B host) and Jen, our last night there.

Amy, Tom, and Chris.

"Meg, jump on my knee."

"Meg, jump on my knee."
