Effects
There are a few other enzymes present in bushmaster venom that deserve some attention. Though these enzymes have rarely been purified, some information is known about their abundance and function.
L-Amino Acid Oxidase
This enzyme breaks up amino acid groups, causing normally functional proteins to become unfunctional. It is believed that these enzymes are involved in the necrotic effects seen in with bushmaster bites. It is also responsible for the slight yellow tint found in the venom (Tu, 1977).
Hydrolytic Enzymes
Specifically, hyaluronic acid is responsible for facilitation of toxin diffusion through the body after envenomation. Once again, the mechanism behind this is not understood.
