Read the following paper:
Shimomura et al. 2008. Disruption of P2RY5, an orphan G protein–coupled receptor, underlies autosomal recessive woolly hair. Nat. Genet. 40 : 335-339. (Paper and supplementary materials available on Louise.)

Write a summary and critique of the paper and supplementary materials.
In your introduction, include background information on hair follicle biology. Also look up and briefly describe any other papers on the gene in question or on related genes (it's up to you whether you cover this at the beginning or end of your paper). For the assigned paper AND supplementary materials, summarize each experiment in terms of 1) the reason for each experimental approach, 2) how the technique works in general, and 3) the data generated and the meaning thereof. Also critique each experiment in terms of the quality of the data and the accuracy of the authors' interpretations. Describe implications for future research. Throughout, pay careful attention to your wording to avoid inappropriate emulation of phrases and sentence structure from the original paper.

You MAY use your textbook, the WWW, and any printed material you can find. Be sure to cite any sources properly! (See the Davidson Department of Biology Statement on Plagiarism.) You may NOT use your classmates or any other person as a resource. You may NOT tell each other about reference sources you have found. Feel free to contact me with questions; if I feel that your question is appropriate to answer, I will email a copy of the question and my response to the whole class.

There is no length restriction. Be concise but complete. Please email me your summary and critique by Monday May 12th at noon. Include your last name at the beginning of the file that you attach to your email.
