Dr. Hales's guidelines for recommendation requests

1. Please make your request at least three weeks in advance of the recommendation due date. If it has been a long time since you were in my class, please arrange to meet with me in person so that you can catch me up on things.

2. Send me an email containing the following information:
i) A current resumé/CV (as an attachment) and any additional information on your courses taken and extracurricular activities.
ii) As much information as possible on the job, fellowship, or program to which you are applying. If there's a general web site, include the link.
iii) The appropriate email addresses or URLs for submission of online recommendations.
iv) Due date(s).
v) Address(es) to cut and paste above the salutation(s) of the letter(s).

3. For recommendations that are to be mailed, supply an addressed and stamped envelope. Include the return address: K. Hales, Dept of Biology, PO Box 7118, Davidson NC 28035. Supply printouts of any necessary forms. Make sure to fill out your portion of any form that requires a signature and/or a choice regarding whether you waive your right to view the recommendation. (Note this exception: for on-campus destinations like the pre-med office, you don't need to provide an envelope, as I will use recycled inter-departmental envelopes.)

4. Send me an email reminder ten days before the due date unless you have already heard from me that the letter is sent.
