Cloning Disease Genes
Educational Goals:
- Understand how to isolate disease-causing alleles and their wild-type
counterparts.
- Learn to manipulate genomic databases.
- Apply molecular
information to explain genetic diseases.
Learning Outcomes - Students will:
- explain why a particular mutation is dominant or recessive
- interpret RFLP data to identify DNA fragments containing
disease alleles
- design experiments to determine which step in protein
production may be at fault for a particular disease.
- describe the molecular causes for CF and HD
- mine genomic databases for detailed information about any given
gene/protein
