Why Poisoned Pot?
Educational Goals:
- Learn how plants harvest and store energy.
- Understand how an herbicide works.
- Integrate biology in larger social and political contexts.
Learning Outcomes - Students will:
- describe biological energy conversions using chemical
terminology
- explain the major steps in light harvesting
- summarize the key aspects of carbon fixation
- make connections between spectrophotometry in lab
and plant physiology
- outline how a pesticide can kill plants
- synthesize current knowledge to formulate when a biological
agent should be regulated
- hypothesize why a chemical might be harmful to humans
based on its mode of action on non-human species
