Molecular Traits of 3 Diseases

Educational Goals:

• Integrate knowledge about Mendelian genetics with molecular genetics.

Learning Outcomes - Students will:

• deduce the molecular basis for a genetic disease and predict its frequency in a controlled mating
• use DNA sequence information to predict restriction fragment patterns
• explain how Southern blots are performed and the underlying mechanism for RFLPs
