Explain This Diagnosis


Two twin sisters in their 40's develop lung cancer.

They go to the same oncologist who performs a DNA microarray analysis of their cancers.

Their biopsies are clustered with a large number of patients' biopsies whose clinical outcomes are known.

Their results look like this:

The physician tells one sister she can benefit from chemotherapy but tells the other one she will not benefit from any medication.

How can this be?

What would you say to these sisters to help them understand the diagnoses?
