ArcView’s Network Analyst

ArcView’s Network Analyst is an extension that deals with network data. Networks are interconnected line features. They usually represent roads, rivers, pipelines, or trails. From this data, it is possible to determine the best route between two spots or amongst several points, calculate travel cost in distance or time, find the closest facility to an address, or model service areas or traffic flow.

In this project, I used a street theme for Mecklenburg County as my Network. This theme was associated with information on each street’s length and name along with its location. I was able to import polypoint themes that included the location of hospitals, fire stations, and Ericsson Stadium.  Thus, I was able to perform investigations that provided information on the best route of resources to the stadium and the service areas of resources.
