Why put a Temporary Wetland on the DCEP?

-Amphibian populations have been declining over the past decade, and a major reason why is habitat destruction (Pough et. all)

-Draining or filling of temporary wetlands destroys breeding habitat for many frogs and salamanders (Whigham; Gibbons)

-After looking at data from the Davidson College Drift Fence, we discovered two salamander species (Ambystoma opacum and Ambystoma maculatum) that need temporary wetlands to breed

-We want to provide a temporary wetland habitat for the salamanders to breed in that is on an ecological preserve
