One of the most important endeavors of the Herpetology Laboratory is monitoring the populations of local amphibians and reptiles. The more amphibians and reptiles we can find, the more we will be able to understand their behavior and demographics. Although we spend a large portion of our time in the field, we don't see everything. As a result, we need your help!
If you see an amphibian or reptile while you are in Central North Carolina, be it salamander, tiny frog, turtle, or a snake, and you are able to positively identify the species, please let us know by filling out an observation form. These can be found outside the Herpetology Lab (Watson 232 at Davidson College) or can be filled out electronically at the CCARI (Central Carolina Amphibian and Reptile Initiative) web site. Additionally, you can just email us your report. Please include the species, date, time, exact locality, observers, and any comments regarding your observation.
For help identifying the species, visit the North Carolina Amphibian and Reptile page. Remember- if you find a box turtle in the Davidson area, please bring it into the lab for our mark-recapture study.
Thank you so much for your help!
