The habitat of the Cheetah has diminished greatly over the past 100 years. Known to roam throughout Africa, the Middle East, and India in the eighteenth century, the Cheetah survives mostly in Southern Africa and in some scarce places in Iran (Laurenson 1991). Ideally Cheetahs prefer the wide landscapes of the Serengeti Plains of Southern Africa. Tall grasses provide cryptic covering necessary for hunting and breeding. Contained within the vast grasslands, abundant herds of prey migrate routinely each season through the Cheetah's home range allowing access to a primary food source (LeBrun 1995).
