Meerkats (Suricata suricatta)
are cooperatively breeding diurnal mongooses native to the Kalahari
Desert
in Southern Africa. A
meerkat stands one
foot tall and weighs roughly two pounds at maturity (Meerkat Info, 2000).
Meerkats are sexually monomorphic (Doolan and MacDonald, 1996, Zoology:
240). Their fur is tan with spots of brown fur on their backs
and black fur around their eyes and on their
long tail. This gregarious species has an extensive social network, which
is examined in this website. |
