Aboriginal Language: Warrigal or Warang

The dingo is a medium sized canine with great importance in Australian culture. The dingo is the largest mammalian predator in Australia and its activities affect both Australian fauna and humans. Present in Australia since its colonization, the origins of the dingo have only recently been uncovered. Long thought to be a descendant of the gray wolf, the dingo now is understood to have originated from East Asian dogs. The dingo presents an interesting comparison to the social system of dogs and wolves .
