Columbian ground squirrel
Spermophilus columbianus

The Columbian Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus columbianus) is a member of the Sciuridae family,
which belongs to the order Rodentia. This species of rodent is a diurnal herbivore (Manno 2008).
It was first documented in Idaho by Lewis and Clark on their journey across the western
United States (Manville, 1959). Since then, the Columbian Ground Squirrel has been
found in the Northwestern United States and Southwester Canada (Elliott, 1991).
