Summary

Habitat: grasslands, savannas (mudflat steppes, bushy steppes, upland steppes). Homerange that is dependable on food availability.

Food: grazers-grass, sometimes herbs, shrubs, and tree shoots.

Social unit: Mixed-sex herd. Young and old bachelor groups. Mother-calf family unit.

Dominance: Male linear dominance hierarchy.

Predation: Lions.

Mating system: Polygynous, female-defense.
