The HHMI Summer Research Program in the Biomedical Sciences will support eight HHMI Summer Research Fellows per year. Each fellow will receive a competitive stipend for 10 weeks, a housing allowance, and financial assistance to travel to scientific meetings. Each faculty mentor will receive funding for supplies and expenses for each student.

Drs. Julio Ramirez and Mark Smith will administer the summer research program. Each fall, biology and neuroscience students will receive an announcement listing faculty mentors and descriptions of research opportunities. Criteria for selection include the student’s academic qualifications and interest in the field of study, as well as faculty recommendations. Students and their faculty mentors will submit research proposals to Drs. Ramirez and Smith for final review. Successful applicants will be informed of their award by the end of February.

The HHMI Summer Research Program will include weekly meetings, with presentations by mentors and Research Fellows. A HHMI Summer Research Poster Symposium will be held during each fall semester.
