The Howard Hughes Medical Institute outreach office fosters initiatives between Davidson College and the local community to enhance literacy and appreciation for the sciences. Outreach connects Davidson faculty and students with opportunities to increase math and science interest and comprehension for our youth, teachers and general public.
Davidson can help correct the perception that science and mathematics are too hard or too boring. By interacting with local schools and civic groups, we show how biology, chemistry, physics and math are relevant and how thrilling it is to discover something. More than half of Davidson science and mathematics faculty have been involved in outreach efforts in recent years, reaching more than 3,000 annually.
