An Introduction to the wildlife of the Davidson Ecological Preserve

Come Learn About the Animals and Plants Inhabiting the Davidson Campus

• Saturday - February 16 - KICKOFF! - Winter Birds of Davidson College
  • Meet at 11 am in front of the College Union
  • lead by Dr. Mark Stanback (Davidson College) and Davidson Biology Students
  • Some binoculars and bird books will be available on a first-come first-serve basis
  • Likely sightings include Red-Tailed Hawks, Coopers Hawks, Cedar Waxwings, Cardinals, Towhees, Sapsuckers, Flickers, Winter Sparrows and Warblers.

• Saturday - April 6 - Herp BIOBLITZ - Help catch and Identify as many species of Reptiles and Amphibians as possible from the Ecological Preserve
  • Meet at 2 PM (immediately following the Davidson Reptile Day) between Dana and Watson Science Buildings
  • lead by Dr. Mike Dorcas (Davidson College) and students from the Davidson College Herpetology Laboratory

Likely finds include Box Turtles, Black Rat Snakes, Spotted Salamanders, Black Racer Snakes, Fence Lizards, Chorus Frogs, and Fowler's Toads.

• Saturday - April 13 - Creepy Crawlers: Butterflies, Insects, and Spiders of the Ecological Preserve - Everwonder about bugs, bees, and butterflies? Come Learn about them!
  • Meet at 11 am in front of the College Union
  • lead by Dr. David Grant (Davidson College), Sudie Davis (Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation), and Davidson Biology Students

• Saturday - May 4 - Spring Wildflowers and Trees of the Ecological Preserve - Want to know the names of all those pretty spring flowers? How about learn what Poison Ivy looks like? Come find out!
