Three-Lined Salamander
(Eurycea guttolineata)

Description:  4-6.5 in. (10-16 cm). Coloration of body varies from yellow to tan and has three distinct dark stripes on back. The belly can be mottled with greenish gray to yellow spots. This species is very distinctive.
Habitat:  Usually found in swamps, wet ditches, and seepages along springs throughout all of North Carolina.
Habits/Young: Females lay about 20 eggs in mid-March.  The larvae undergo metamorphosis after 4-5 months and then sexual maturity is reached a year later.
