Blue-Ridge Two-Lined Salamander
(Eurycea wilderae)

Description: 2.5-4.5 in. (7-10.5 cm). Coloration of body is a reddish orange with a broad stripe on the back.  Dark black stripes are found on the sides of the belly.   Males usually have broader heads than females.
Habitat:  This species is found all throughout North Carolina.  This salamander inhabits areas near springs, seepages, and streams in hardwood forests and swamps.  They are most numerous in the mountains.
Habits: Courtship occurs in the fall and eggs are laid in the winter in running water.
