Jordan's Salamander
(Plethodon jordani)

Description: 3.5-5 in. (9-12.5 cm). Coloration of body is black with small white spots on the sides of body.  Jordan's Salamander usually have red cheeks and red legs.
Habitat: Found under leaf litter, rotting logs, and mossy stone piles in the mountains of North Carolina.
Habits: Mostly active at night when humidity is high and the temperature is mild.  During the day, this salamander is underground or land cover.
Young: Juveniles hatch in the spring while nesting takes place in the fall.
