Southern Appalachian Salamander
(Plethodon oconaluftee)

Description: 4.5-7 in. (12-17 cm). Coloration of body is black with small white spots on back and larger white spots on belly.  This salamander has small red spots on the legs to distinguish it from slimy salamanders.
Habitat: Usually found in the higher slopes in the mountains of North Carolina.
