The scientific name of the Marbled Salamander is Ambystoma
opacum. The Marbled salamander is a stocky salamander, about
3.5-5 five inches long. They are shiny black and have large
white cross bands across their back. The marking are brighter
and more distinct in male salamanders, especially during breeding
periods.

The Marbled Salamander lives under logs, in swamps or moist areas, and along ponds and streams. They eat worms, insects, or snails.

Marbled Salamanders breed on land in early autumn. The females will lay 100 eggs at least, under leaves and bushes, and then guard them until they are ready to hatch.
