Strongylocentrotus purpuratus Genes in Development: Receptors

SpSHR2

Function

SpSHR2 gene codes for a transcription factor which belongs to the superfamily of steroid-thyroid-retinoic acid hormone receptors.
Genomic DNA hybridization suggests that SpSHR2 is a single-copy gene (Kontrogianni-Konstantopoulos et al., 1996).

Protein

The SpSHR2 antibodies recognize the single polypeptide with an apparent size of about 75 kDa (Kontrogianni-Konstantopoulos et al., 1996).

Subcellular location

Expression Pattern

SpSHR2 transcripts are stored in the egg as maternal RNAs in different forms resulting from alternative splicing and disappear before gastrulation without being replaced by embryonic RNAs.
During early cleavage stages of embryonic development the SpSHR2 protein is synthesized by translation of the maternal RNA (Kontrogianni-Konstantopoulos et al., 1996).
