Strongylocentrotus purpuratus Genes in Development: Spliceosomal small nuclear RNAs
FunctionSpU6 gene encodes the spliceosomal small nuclear RNAs and ispresent in tandemly repeated units. Each tandemly repeated unitcontains a single functional U6 gene, whose sequence is the sameas that of the major U6 snRNAs expressed in S.purpuratus eggs andembryos (Li J.-M. et al., 1994).
Expression PatternThe SpU6 gene is expressed in oogenesis and early embryogenesis (Li J.-M. et al., 1994).The snRNA synthesis is activated at about the 32-cell stageand the synthesis continues at a high rate until after hatching. The rate of accumulation declines dramatically between blastula and gastrula and remains at a relatively low rate through the pluteus stage (Stefanovic B. et al., 1991).
