The enzyme phospholipase C plays an important role in cellular signal transduction. The enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate into the two compounds, diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol triphosphate (IP3). Both DAG and IP3 play essential roles in regulation of cell division.
