The summer of 1999 marked the third year for Davidson's HHMI summer research program under the 1996 grant, and it continued to build on the successes of the first two years. Summer research fellows began their work in mid-May 1999, and most completed their projects by the end of July or early August 1999. Love of Learning interns assisted the fellows with their research primarily during the months of June and July. In October, a poster session and campus reception was held to showcase the research of the summer research fellows, the LOL interns, and their faculty mentors. A number of the students continue to work on their research during the 1999-2000 academic year. Again, most of the HHMI summer research will be submitted for publication in peer reviewed journals in the near future.
